FCA President conferred Honorary Doctorate Degree

FCA President Celso Dayrit was conferred the Honorary Degree in DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION by the Incheon University in Korea during the institution's Graduation Rites held on August 24, 2007. Dr. Dayrit was cited for his invaluable contributions towards the development of sports in Asia and the Olympic Movement.
FIE SETS UP TRAINING CAMP IN BEIJING

In recognizing the potentials of Asian fencers in the world of fencing, the Federation Internationale D'Escrime established its first official training center for Asia in Beijing , China . The inauguration was held on April 26, 2007 in the Chinese capital with the presence of FIE President RENE ROCH, Chinese Fencing Association President XIAO TIAN, Mr. WANG WEI who is a member of the FIE Executive Committee.
With this training center in Beijing , Asian fencers will be able to avail of the facilities and guidance that the center offers in cooperation with the FIE. Many other fencers from other continents will also find opportunity of using this center while preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games.
JAPAN 'S RYO MIYAKE SHINES IN WORLD JUNIORS & CADET FENCING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Japanese cadet foil champion RYO MIYAKE saved the day for Asia in the recently concluded World Juniors & Cadets Fencing Championships which was held in Belek Turkey last April, by topping the cadet foil competitions.
He was the only Asian fencer who won a gold in the said championships.
Korea won two silvers courtesy of IM YONG TAE in men's juniors foil individual, and PARK YOUNG JUN in men's juniors saber individual event. China won the silver in the men's foil team, and also brought home three other bronze medals.
OLYMPIC COUNCIL OF ASIA AWARDS FCA PRESIDENT

AFC President CELSO L. DAYRIT was honored with the Golden Merit Award by the Olympic Council of Asia during its 26th General Assembly held in Kuwait on April 16, 2007. This prestigious award was conferred by OCA President Shiekh Ahmad Al-Fhad Al-Sabah, in recognizing the various contributions of Mr. Dayrit in the development of sports in Asia, and having served as OCA Vice President
In the same meeting, Mr. Dayrit was named member of the elite OCA Advisory Committee. From the fencing community, we share the glory of this award with Mr. Dayrit.
COACHING COURSE SUCCESSFULLY HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN

The International Charity Foundation “For Future of Fencing” and the Kazakhstan Fencing Federation jointly organized a seminar for fencing coaches in Alma-Ata in Kazakhstan . The seminar participated in by 47 coaches coming from 15 Asian countries was held from 13 to 19 of March 2007. The seminar was carried out by selected specialists who were invited for this occasion.
BEST REFEREE AWARD FOR ALIREZA POURSALMAN

In a nationwide search for Iranian Achievers in the field of sports organized by the Iranian Television and the Iranian Sports Ministry, ALIREZA POURSALMAN was bestowed the Best Referee Award for 2006, for his active participation as fencing referee in national and international competitions.
Mr. Poursalman is a distinguished FIE Licensed referee and also a member of the AFC Referees' Commission. We extend our congratulations to our friend ALIREZA.
2006 DOHA ASIAN GAMES A GREAT SUCCESS

As the people and government of Qatar stand with pride by hosting the best ever Asian Games, we should also congratulate the Qatar Fencing Federation and its President Shiekh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani for the success of the fencing competitions. The physical set-up in the competition venue as well as the support organization followed the standards of the FIE, though the prevailing rules of the Olympic Council of Asia and the Asian Fencing Confederation were observed.
Competition was intense in all events. China won seven of the 12 gold medals at stake, while Korea getting four, and Japan one. Other countries which brought home medals are, Hong Kong , Kazakhstan , Iran and Thailand . (See complete list of finishers in Results )

CHINESE FENCERS SHOW WAY IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Chinese fencing team made a “world-class” performance during the recently concluded World Fencing Championships held in Turin Italy from September 28 to October 3, 2006 by winning 2 golds and one bronze medal, thus demonstrating their preparedness for the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
WANG LEI captured the gold in the Men’s Epee Individual event, while the Chinese women’s epee team dominated their event with a spectacular win over France.
The other Asian country which got the limelight was Korea which won three bronze medals. The complete list of Asian fencers which won medals in the Championships, follows:

ASIAN FENCERS SHINE IN WORLD JUNIORS & CADET CHAMPIONSHIPS

Asian fencers had a respectable performance during the 2006 World Juniors and Cadets Fencing Championships held in Taebaek City. A total of two golds, 5 silvers and 5 bronze medals were won by Asian fencers coming from Korea, Kazakhstan, China and Japan.
KIM BON-GIL of Korea won the gold in the Men’s Cadet Saber individual event, while the Men’s Epee Team of KAZAKHSTAN won the other gold medal for Asia.

AFC FENCING-AID PROGRAMME GETS SUPPORT

The AFC Fencing-Aid Programme conceptualized by AFC President Celso Dayrit, received the support of the Korean Fencing Federation (KFF) and the Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF).
The KFF granted 30 cadet fencers from 10 Asian countries a subsidy of US$320 each to defray their cost of accommodation while in Taebaek City for the World Juniors & Cadets Fencing Championships. On the other hand, QFF extended assistance to 3 fencers from different Asian countries who participated in the 2006 Asian Juniors & Cadets Fencing Championships in Kuwait City. The assistance came in the form of air tickets via Qatar Airways.
The AFC would like to thank KFF President Cho Jung Nam and QFF President Shiekh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani for their generous contribution towards the development of fencing in Asia.
AFC PRESIDENT RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL MERIT AWARD

AFC President CELSO L. DAYRIT was honored with an international Merit Award for his distinguished contributions towards the promotion of the Olympic Movement. The Merit Award was given by International Olympic Committee JACQUES ROGGE and ACNO President MARIO VASQUEZ RANA during the General Assembly of the Association des Commites Nationaux Olympiques held in Seoul Korea on April 5, 2006.
FIE President RENE ROCH witnessed the awarding ceremonies.
