After a long and tedious struggle to convince the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Indonesian Asian Games Organizing Committee (INASGOC) to reconsider their initial plans of reducing to only 10 fencing events in the 2018 Asian Games, the decision to restore the complete 12 fencing events in the next quadrennial continental games was finally arrived at. This welcome news was relayed to FCA President Celso Dayrit by no less than Mr. Haider Farman who is the OCA Sports Director.
Several people led by Dayrit worked tirelessly to justify our 12 events to the OCA and INASGOC. Indonesian Fencing president Agus Suparmanto and other Asian fencing officials also collaborated to negotiate with Farman, Wei Jihong, and even OCA president Sheikh Ahmad Al Fahad Al Sabah.
Finally, fencing will continue to have a complete programme of 12 events in the Asian Games which it has always had in the past. It may have been a timely victory for fencing since the International Olympic Committee recently approved to also include all the 12 fencing events in the Olympic Games starting in Tokyo in 2020.
The Asian Games Technical Delegates meeting attended by Ms. Marilee Estampador which was held in Jakarta on August 17, 2017 finalized the draft technical handbook for all sport.
