The 3rd edition of the Asian Veterans Fencing Championships being held in Bangkok Thailand from September 9 to 12, 2017 has drawn the biggest participation ever, with more than 300 entries coming from 15 countries in Asia and Oceania.
Individual events in Men's Foil, Epee and Saber were each divided into four categories: 40 - 49 y/o, 50 - 59 y/o, 60 - 69 y/o, and 70 y/o up; while the categories in the women's individual events were from 35 - 49 y/o, 50 - 59 y/o, 60 - 69 y/o, and 70 y/o up. Team events in each weapon were also held where men's teams must have a combined minimum age of 135 y/o, while women's teams must have a combined minimum age of 120 y/o.
The inaugural edition of the AVFC was held in Manila in 2015 where a little over 100 entries from 9 countries were registered. The 2016 AVFC was then held in Perth Australia drawing more than 180 entries from 11 countries.
The FCA Veterans Council is headed by Dr. Francis Kwong from Hong Kong. He also represents Asia in the FIE Veterans Council, with Dr. Celso Dayrit sitting as the FIE Comex representative.
