Foil proved to be the best weapon events for Asia at the recently concluded World Juniors and Cadet Fencing Championships held in Plovdiv Bulgaria held from April 1 to 10, 2017.
The Juniors Men's Foil Individual and the Women's Foil Individual events were won by CHEUNG KA LONG of Hong Kong and KICUCHI KOMAKI from Japan, respectively. Cheung prevailed over another Asian, TOSHIYA SAITO of Japan in an exciting see-saw bout to eventually win at 15-14 in a rare all-Asian finals. On the other hand, KOMAKI convincingly won against Serena Rossini (Italy) with a score of 15-8.
HUANG ALI of China won the bronze medal in the Women's Foil Individual event, while the Japanese Men's Foil Team won the silver medal after they lost to USA in the finals by 1 point. In the Cadet category, Singapore's AMITA BERTHIER won the bronze in the girl's Individual Foil event and the Korean Team finished with a bronze in the Mixed Team event, completing Asia's only two medals in the cadet category.
Other medal winners from Asia were Chinese fencers. LU YANG saved the silver medal in the Juniors Men's Individual Saber after he lost to Konstantin Lokhanov of Russia at 11-15, while XU HO salvaged a bronze medal in the Juniors Women's Individual Epee.
