Olympic gold medallist Kim Ji-yeon claimed a comprehensive final victory as the Asian Fencing Championships opened today.
The 30-year-old South Korean, the London 2012 women's sabre winner, won in the same category today in Thailand's capital Bangkok. She defeated Jiarui Quan of China in the final at Thammasat University, easing home 15-5.
Bronze medals went to Hong Kong's Hin Wai Lam and another South Korean in Sooyeon Choi. Kim had to beat her compatriot in the semi-finals and had a much tougher time of it, only edging through 15-13. The men's foil title was also decided today with Hong Kong's Siu Lun Chung winning gold.
He defeated Jun Heo of South Korea in the final, 15-7. Hong Kong's Taegyu Ha and China's Mengkai Huang won bronze.
