    2019 ASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS GET UNDERWAY

    The 2019 edition of the Asian (seniors) Fencing Championships got started with a total of 372 fencers representing 28 countries from Asia and the Oceania. This competition is significant for fencers aspiring to compete in the 2020 Olympic Games which will be held also in Tokyo which is the capital city of Japan.

    The championships is being held until June 18, 2019 at the Chiba Port Arena of Tokyo. The fencing competitions in next year's Olympic Games will be in the Convention Center also located in Chiba prefecture.

    Of the 372 fencers, 201 are males while 171 are females. Notable participant is a lone fencers playing under the FIE Flag since his home country Pakistan is still not a recognized member federation of the FIE.

    The ranking points earned by fencers in this competition will be considered in the overall ranking which the FIE will use in determining the qualification for the 2020 Olympic Games.
