PARIS-France, May 19, 2019 - Korea's reigning Olympic champion Sangyoung Park took gold at the Paris Challenge SNCF Reseau Men's Epee World Cup. In all, 41 international teams and 373 individual epeeists participated in the competition, which took place at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.
Park fenced Russia's Nikita Glazkov in the gold-medal match of the men's individual event, winning with a 15-13 score. Glazkov overtook Hungary's Mate Tamas Koch in the semi-final round, 15-10, while Park beat Hungary's Gergely Siklosi, 15-13. Venezuelan Olympic gold medallist Ruben Limardo-Gascon lost in the round of 16 to Ukraine's Roman Svichkar, 15-11; the Ukrainian was then eliminated in the quarter-finals by Siklosi, 15-13. Also, French world champion Yannick Borel was narrowly beaten in the round of 32 by Koch, 15-14.
