In the month of December 2019, two regional Games were held in Asia which included the sport of Fencing in their competition programme. These were the Southeast Asian Games (or SEA Games) and the South Asian Games (or SAF Games).
The SEA Games were held in Manila Philippines with Fencing being competed from December 3 to 8, 2019. The SEA Games in the oldest of the 5 regional Games in Asia having started in 1959. This year’s edition is also the biggest so far, having 56 sports and 530 events in its calendar. The eleven countries included in the SEA Games are: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam. With the exception of Laos and Timor Leste, the other 9 countries entered athletes in the Fencing competition.
The SAF Games were held in Katmandu, Nepal from December 1 to 10, 2019. SAF Games include countries in the southern region of the continent such as Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. With the exception of Bhutan and Maldives, the other 5 countries entered athletes in the Fencing competition of the SAF Games.
