    MIXED TEAM DEBUTS IN WORLD J/C CHAMPIONSHIPS, ASIA DOMINATES

    Asia dominated the Mixed Cadet Team Event in the recent World J/C Fencing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Korea lead through out its semi-final match against Russia while Team Japan had a more interesting bout against the Americans. The US had a comfortable 6-point lead after the first 3 bouts but the Japanese women saber fencer, Misaki Emura was able to narrow the lead down to 2 points after the fourth bout. Japanese men’s foil fencer, Takuma Ito then completely dominated Cadet Individual gold medalist Samuel Moelis finishing the fifth bout with a score of 20-24. Japanese women’s foilist, Rio Azuma then sealed their fate to meet the Koreans in the finals after she beat Morgan Partridge with a final score of 30-26.

    It was an exciting and close finals match between Korea and Japan with both teams taking turns in taking the lead. But eventually, Korean female foilist Mo Jandee made the last touch in the 1-minute extension finishing the match at 29-28.

    Team Russia took the bronze after getting the last touch also in the 1-minute extension ending the match again, with a score of 29-28.

    Aside from medals and Certificates, the winners in the mixed team event also won certificates from the FIE worth $20,000 for first place, $15,000.00 for second and $10,000.00 for third which they can exchange for any fencing equipment they may need from Allstar.
