From the Federation Internationale D’Escrime
President

Dear friends, dear fencing fans,

The FIE is happy to be able to count on the Fencing Confederation of Asia among its Member Confederations, and this has been the case since 1972 when the FIE Congress at the Olympic Games in Munich passed the proposal for its formation.

Mr. Celso L. Dayrit, FIE Member of Honour and Member of the Executive Committee, plays a very active part in the development of fencing. Several Asian members elected in our commissions also testify to the excellent collaboration fostered between out two organizations, whose common goal is to promote our sports.

The thirty four national federations in Asia are a clear exampleof how much our sport has expanded on this continent for almost forty years. The FIE feels strongly about the development of the Confederations and attaches particular importance not only to the development of the national member federations but also to that of fencing in general.

The many World Championships, World Cup ot other Grand Priz competitions competed in Asia reflect the excellent results obtained each year by fencers from this continent.

I can only encourage young Asians to become interested in our sports, a sport which conveys so many values and human qualities, and I particularly thank Mr. Celso L. Dayrit for his contribution to the future of fencing.
